Darjeeling - The Queen of the Hills

The stunningly beautiful hill station of the Eastern India, Darjeeling is located nearly 686 kms away from Calcutta. Set at an altitude of 2134 meters, in the lap of the magnificent Himalayas, this renowned tourist place, which is also a Honeymooners’ Paradise of sorts, much attracts the visitors from practically all over the world, round the year.

Once a summer abode of the British, Darjeeling has an immense tourism value. Kanchenjunga Peak and the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, can be seen from this place on a clear day. Places to Visit in Darjeeling

Darjeeling Toy Train: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Darjeeling Toy Train is also called the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. It carries the visitors through the lower reaches of the Eastern Himalayas to the rolling hills and verdant green tea plantations of the hill station.

Tiger Hill:
Located close to 11 kms from Darjeeling at a height of 2,555 mts, the Tiger Hill offers a lovely vista of the mighty Everest and Kanchenjunga peaks. It is the highest spot in Darjeeling and tourists visit this attraction in the early hours of the morning to watch memorable views of sunrise over the Himalayan range – more so Mt. Kanchenjunga. Tiger Hill is also a part of a nature reserve and is a well-known picnic spot.

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) and Museums: Located on the periphery of the hill station, close to two km away from the main town, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) offers courses in mountaineering. The museums situated inside its property shows samples of Himalayan wildlife besides historic mountaineering equipments. The Lloyd’s Botanical Gardens: One of the oldest in the area and located just below the main Market Motor stand, this tourist place boasts of a rare collection of the Himalayan flowers.

Zoological Park:
It specializes in high altitude wildlife - Yaks, Himalayan Black Bears, and Pandas, not to mention Siberian Tiger. Ghoom: It is a hill station near by. From here, one can catch the famed Toy Train of Darjeeling back to the hill station. The value of the hill arises from the fact that it has one of the most famed monasteries of the hill resort.

The Darjeeling Ranjeet Valley Passenger Ropeway: Another key attraction of Darjeeling, this ropeway links Darjeeling to Singla Bazar on the Ranjeet River at the bottom of the scenic valley.

Kurseong:
Located at an altitude of 1458 metres (4864 ft), “the Land of the White Orchids” Kurseong boasts of a nice climate across the year. Mirik:
Picturesquely situated 49 Km from Darjeeling, Mirik is a destination for those who love peace and serenity and is almost fully surrounded by some of the best tea gardens that one may come across in the area. Mirik is also the biggest producer of oranges in the entire state.
