Udham Singh Nagar - Gateway to Kumaon hills

Located in Uttarakhand and surrounded by the lovely and scenic Kumaon Himalayas on one side and Nepal on the other, Udham Singh Nagar is mainly an industrial district with numerous industry-related professions being widespread here. Earlier, it was a part of the Nainital district.

Established as recently as 1995 as a separate district, Udham Singh Nagar is a green place which has invited all round prosperity to the area. Several agriculture-related activities and industries dominate the region. One of the finest built universities, all over the world, Pantnagar University situated in Udham Singh Nagar, is a shining institution of learning when it comes to agriculture and technology domains.

Tourist Attraction

Udham Singh Nagar has several key places and these are just some of them:
Rudrapur:
Established by a devotee of Lord Rudra or by Hindu tribal chief called Rudra, hundreds of years ago, Rudrapur is presently the head quarters of the Udham Singh Nagar District. History suggests that during the rule of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, the control of this area passed over to King Rudra Chandra.

When the king was passing one day, his chariot got caught into marshy land. Hence, he took the decision of building a temple and well at that particular place. The present Atariya Temple, a key tourist attraction of Udham Singh Nagar -- is situated at the same spot. Every year, on the auspicious occasion of the 'Navratras', a huge and vibrant fair is held here with thousands of devotees seeking the blessings of the Goddess Atariya. The fair attracts visitors from far off places and continues for 10 days.

Kashipur:
Earlier called Govishan or Govisana, Kashipur draws its name from Kashinath Adhikari, who founded the township. The USP of this destination is the Chaiti Mela which is the best known fair of place. Presently, Kashipur is a key industrial township. During the autumn season, post monsoon, tourists are rewarded with the stunning views of the snow-covered mountain peaks of Trishul and its amazing surroundings.

Nanakmatta Sahib Gurudwara: Located at a distance of 56 kilometers from Rudrapur, on the Rudrapur-Tanakpur route, Nanakmatta is a yet another lovely tourist place of Udham Singh Nagar, and a wonderful spiritual and religious destination for the followers of Sikhism. Recently, a dam has been built on the Saryu River at Nanak Matta forming Nanak Sagar and this has significantly boosted the appeal of Nanakmatta from the tourism point of view.
