Picturesque Guwahati on the banks of mighty river Brahmaputra is the capital of north-eastern state of Assam. It is also called the 'gateway to the north-east'. Guwahati was formerly known as Pragjyotishpur (the City of Eastern Light). The diverse landscape of this beautiful city includes mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, forests, traditional buildings of older period and modern structures. Furthermore, it is a place having many beautiful temples. Guwahati houses the political capital of the state- Dispur. Many other tourist attractions of north-east can be reached only from Guwahati.

Guwahati

Day 01 Arrival Guwahati

You will arrive Guwahati in the evening. On arrival transfer and check-in to the Hotel. Guwahati- the biggest city of Assam is treated as The Gateway to the Northeast India and the most important destination in the entire Northeast. Located on the bank of the Brahmaputra River, it is the largest commercial, industrial and educational center of the region. From outside, Guwahati is easily accessible by air, rail & road. Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is a modern airport and most airlines have daily flights from all metros across India. Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 02 Guwahati

After breakfast, city sightseeing of Guwahati. Visit-KamakhyaTemple-Kamakhya Temple is located in Guwahati on the top of Nilachal hill which is 160 meters high. This hill has a group of ancient temples, the most famous of which is the Kamakhya temple. This temple is considered as the greatest of all the Shaktipithas in India. Around this shrine the small township of Kamakhya has sprung up. Kamakhya is known for its rare natural beauty and one can enjoy an Arial view of the city of Guwahati and the mighty river Brahmaputra flowing below.BhubaneshwariTemple- Higher to the Kamakhya Temple is located the temple of Bhubaneshwari. From here you can have a panoramic view of the town of Guwahati. Shiva Temple-Reachable by motor boats and public ferries from Umananda Ghat, the Shiva Temple of Umananda is positioned on an island amid the Brahmaputra River. Half day free for leisure. Day 03 Guwahati / Kaziranga (215kms)

After breakfast start your journey towards Kaziranga, situated at a distance of about (215kms). Kaziranga- Kaziranga National Park, situated in the northeastern state of Assam, is one of the most picturesque wildlife parks in India. The natural habitat of the one-horned rhino (Rhinoceros unicorns), Kaziranga lies on the southern banks of the Brahmaputra River, northeast of Assam's capital Guwahati. Originally established as a game reserve in 1908, which included specific portions of Assam's Sibsagar district, Kaziranga was declared a sanctuary in 1940 to counter excessive poaching. In 1974, the Indian Government declared it as a protected site. The park's original inhabitants-the rhino and the elephant being the most noticeable-now thrive in a serene environment to the sheer delight of nature lovers. Viewing wildlife at Kaziranga Park because of its vast open spaces, the presence of the mighty Brahmaputra, and adjoining Mikir hills makes a trip to Kaziranga a complete 'jungle' adventure. Day 04 Kaziranga

After breakfast , start your city sightseeing of Kaziranga. Visit-Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary - Beside of course the great one horned Indian Rhino, the other major wild attractions include a large population of Indian Elephants, Indian Bison, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Hog Deer, Sloth Bears, Tigers, Leopard Cats, Jungle Cats, Otters, Hog Badgers, Capped Langurs, Hoolock Gibbons, Wild Boar, Jackal, Wild Buffalo, Pythons, Monitor Lizards, etc. Kaziranga National Park is a birding paradise; the grasslands are a raptor country that can be seen on safari makes a remarkable experience. These include the Oriental Honey Buzzard, Black-Shouldered Kite, Black Kite, Brahminy Kite, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, White Tailed Eagle, Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, Himalayan Griffon, etc. Huge numbers of migratory birds descend on the parks lakes and marshy areas during winters, including Greylag Geese, Bar-Headed Geese, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Falcated Duck, Red-Crested Pochard and Northern Shoveller. Day 05 Kaziranga

After breakfast , continue your sightseeing tour of Kaziranga. Elephant Safari-The vast open country makes Kaziranga National Park very accessible and wildlife viewing fairly pleasurable. Here one can leave in the early hours of the dawn for an elephant-back-ride. Authorized and trained Mahouts who guide visitors through the park train the Elephants. One could see wild Elephant herds roaming around or Indian Rhinos browse past visitors unconcernedly. Since Kaziranga wildlife Sanctuary is easily accessible, its provides a chance to see animals in the wild at such close quarters, thus making a trip to this National Park a very rewarding experience.

Tea and rubber plantation gardens- You can stroll through the lush coffee and rubber plantations of the nearby Karbi Anglong. Or visit the Karbi villages, meet the Karbi people and observe their way of living. You can also venture through the tea gardens that Assam is so famous for and watch how one gets one's daily cup of tea. Film shows on wildlife can be arranged at the various tourist lodges in Kaziranga, on request. Remaining whole day free for leisure. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 06 Kaziranga / Manas (258kms)

After breakfast, drive down towards Manas (258kms). Manas- Manas is situated in Kamrup-Golapara district, on the foothills of the Himalayas south east of river Manas along the Assam- Bhutan border. The beautiful park earlier known as North Kamrup is spread over an area of 391 sq km and was declared a sanctuary on December 01, 1928. It was established as the core of the Manas Tiger Reserve from April 1973 and elevated to the position of a National Park status on September 7, 1990. It was accorded the status of World Heritage Site in 1985 for its rare wealth of endangered species. The park extends over the national boundary to Bhutan where it is known as the Royal Manas Park. Manas is home to 20 of the most endangered species of animals which include the rare golden langur, hispid hare, pygmy hog, red pandas etc.

The main highlight of the park is the Giant hornbill, two subspecies of which, the pied and grey varieties are found here. The park is rich in mammals and birds, which includes elephants, tiger, panther, leopard, clouded leopard, gaur, wild-buffalo, great one horned rhinoceros, rare golden langur, capped-langur, civet cat, squirrel, sloth beat, sambar, swamp deer, hog deer, otter, monitor lizard, gharial, python, great hornbill, florican cormorants, ergets and many other species of migratory and predatory birds. The major problem in the park is rhino poaching. The forests here are tropical moist deciduous type. They are interspersed with swamps. The wetlands are essential for the survival of the fast disappearing hispid hare.

The Vegetation ranges from Khairsissoo-bhabhar grass community to semi evergreens. There are intermediate stages of succession-deciduous forests, swampy reed lands and Sal forests. The simul, khoir, udal, sida, bohera and kanchan are the common trees in and around the park. There are rides on boats, jeeps and elephants available. Elephant ride is the best to see the animals from close range rather than the boat rides. The 3 hour elephant ride starts from Mothanguri. Along the Manas river one can spot many water birds like mergansers, brahminy ducks, a range of egrets etc and otters can be commonly seen in the river. Visit - ManasNational Park is 360-km. Manas is a very special biosphere, for it harbors twenty species of birds and animals that are highly endangered and listed in the IUCN red data book. Among the highly endangered species are the attractive Red Pandas, which are occasionally in the higher elevation. Initially the park was a wildlife sanctuary but in 1990 it was declared a national park.

Hispid Hare, Pigmy Hog and Golden Langurs are some of the rare species of animals to be found in the park apart from Tigers, Elephants, Rhinoceros, Wild Buffalo, Wild Boar, Sambhar, Swamp Deer, and Hog Deer, which are easily spotted at this park. Come winter and Manas is full of Migratory birds like the Riverchats, Forktails, Cormorants and Ducks like the Ruddy Shell-Duck. There are regular woodland birds like the Indian Hornbill and Pied Hornbill also found over here. Butterflies and reptiles are also found aplenty in Manas. In the river water, you can enjoy boating and fishing as well. Coloured pebbles of the Manas River are an added attraction not to be missed.Barpeta has various attractions including the famous Vaishnava monastery. Acharya Madhabdev's statue is installed within the monastery and its Kirtan Hall is a notable touring spot. Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 07Manas / Guwahati (176kms)

After breakfast , drive back to Guwahati(176kms). Check-in to the Hotel. Go for remaining Half day city sightseeing of Guwahati. Visit-NavagrahaTemple: In eastern part of the city of Guwahati is located the Navagraha temple on top of a hill. It is referred to as the “temple of nine planets”, - a center of astrology and astronomy. Purva Tirupati SriBalajiTemple: Covering a huge area of two acres at Betkuchi, the Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple is one more tourist attraction in Guwahati.

Vashistha Ashram: At approximately 12 km from the railway station lies the Vashistha Ashram (the abode of sage Vashistha). It is an interesting old shrine, amid lots of greens and three lovely rivulets, Kanta, Lalita, and Sandhya. Deepor Beel, Dighalipukhuri, Silpukhuri, Nakkatapukhuri and Jorphukhur are among the various natural and artificial lakes that are some of the finest sightseeing options. For tourists looking for urban activities, there are plenty of options. Pan Bazaar, Fansi Bazaar, Ganeshguri, Paltan Bazaar, and Beltola Bazaar are some of the options for marketing in Guwahati.
